Wow It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!
Before we know it we will be on winter break and welcoming 2010, we only have 15 more instructional days. I know we need to make the most of them and they sure will be very busy!
This week we will be busy preparing for our American Walk Through. We have painted many props and will finish up on Monday and Tuesday. We will also be rehearsing our parts. Please remind your children to rehearse their parts at home. Remember it is not necessary to buy a costume, but have them use their imagination and dress up from what they can find at home. For example, baseball pants with white long socks for the men characters. They can make a wig out of construction paper (I can provide the paper) and add cotton balls at home for the hair, or yarn. Bonnets from square pieces of material. Long skirts work wonderful for the girls. Old vests look like the 1700's, shirts with ruffles and lace. Look in closets or the Salvation army for low cost if you really would like to buy some outfits. More importantly let's have fun.
I sure hope to see many of you on Thursday. It will be from 12:15 until 2:45. Parents are welcome to come and go if you are only able to stay for a while. Any adults are welcome to come: Aunts, Uncles, or grandparents.
This week we will be back into the routine of normal days. Academically we will continue teaching about the American Revolution through the winter break. In math we will be moving quite quickly so please work with your children at home if possible. We will finish up chapter 4 fractions and decimals by the middle of next week, then begin chapter 5 which continues with fractions, addition, subtraction with like and unlike denominators. Just a caution "STUDENTS MUST KNOW THEIR MULTIPLICATION FACTS" or these next few weeks will be very difficult.
This week's spelling will be a little different, we will have a list of 20 words that the students have encountered through our study of the American Revolution. There may not be a "spelling pattern" but many were commonly misspelled by the students.
We will finish up learning about the three battles: Lexington & Concord, Trenton, and Yorktown by the end of the week. The students will have a test on the battles next week on Monday. They have a study guide we have been working with in class they may take it home to study.
We will also be having a test on the colonies and the information on each one this Friday. The students also have index cards on that information.
